I have struggled with how to respond to some recent events that have hurt a lot of people. I keep coming back to the quote attributed to Mahatma Gandhi: "Be the change you wish to see in the world."
How do you turn anger and pain into a positive force? This article provides a warning, that if we continue to allow the anger, the bitterness, and the questions to keep us up at night, then we are not doing ourselves any good. In fact, we are doing very much what the man who killed those innocent people in Vegas did. We are allowing our minds to obsess about conclusions we have made about the world. Then we get riled up and angry and who knows what irrational actions we might take?
No rational solutions can be found when we are in a state of anger or pain. Perhaps the answer is to turn that response on its head. To move towards the power of love and compassion.
